This interface acts as an interactive device between viewer and scanned 8mm found footage. The viewer becomes an active participant in their cinematic experience by being able to forensically analyze, distort and travel through the footage. The found footage shows the journey a European family takes to an unknown country in Africa. From innocent scenes of the young couple tasting exotic food to scenes of planes landing on a runway, this footage presents an intimate encounter with a colonial reality via the gaze of european tourists in the 1950ies.
The interactive interface allows the viewer to change the speed, the orientation and linearity, the opacity and resolution of the footage through a series of knobs and sliders. This further allows space for play between the analog and digital materiality of the found footage.
